The art of selling is a learnable skill. And if you really want to know the truth, in life, everything requires selling. So you better be a good salesperson. Whether you ask someone to go out with you for a raise or a promotion or when trying to convince someone to go to your favorite restaurant, you’re selling. Kids sell to their parents the many reasons why they should have the latest iPhone or a start-up sells the idea of their new company to secure funding from investors or a bank. And so on.
You better be a good salesperson if you want to succeed in life. Because it all takes a lot of selling, the wonderful thing is that if your product and services are good and there is a market, you can enter a new market full of competitors and outsell them. How? You might ask by way of better marketing and sales tactics analyses.
This is the secret. People will buy from you if you give better reasons why people should buy from you compared to your competitors. And on top of it, if you have stellar customer service, the word will spread. And in today’s digital and social media world, the word can spread fast. So having a solid digital presence, online and local authority, and social proof can be the differentiators between business success and failure.
So, when you’re trying to sell your products and services, you first need to know your target market. You need to identify your audience and understand them. Think of your niche.
Once you know your target market, craft your sales pitch around them. Why should they buy from you and not your competition? What is your USP (Unique Selling Proposition)?
Don't try to sell something to everyone - focus on those most likely to buy from you. Follow up with potential customers after having showed interest in what you're selling.
Be confident in what you're selling - if you don't believe in it, no one else will. Always be polite and respectful when selling - even if someone says no, thank them for their time, and keep climbing the staircase to success.
